Board Members have core duties based on the position they are elected to or appointed to. This document and the attachment at the bottom is provided to give a general understanding of what each positions is responsible for to have a Little League in Auburn WA.

Our fiscal year is from October 1st through September 30th. In the beginning of the year we elect new Board Members and prepare for upcoming season. We reflect on what went well and what we could have done better. We thank those departing their volunteer roles. We take inventory of equipment needs and field material needs so we are prepared for the new season. We discuss and approve fees for the upcoming season based on Sponsor Support from the previous year and costs the league had in the previous season. Concessions is one avenue of revenue in addition to the Sponsor support to offset the required fees. We receive no monies from the City to do our league. We have an annual operating budget around 60,000 dollars and require registration monies to support our costs.

A positive environment for the players fosters a self growth of membership. To pay the bills for our league it is imperative that we have positive minded folks leading the league. It is equally important that the team families foster that positive experience so they help the league build their membership.

Board members spend around 1 hour a month for the months of October through January, and then an hour from July to September. February is when things get going with tryouts, answering emails, checking mail, depositing checks, processing background paperwork, submitting documents to Little League International, preparing taxes, advertising, yard signs up, yard signs down. From February to April the Board spends around 5-10 hours a month depending on the position or how many positions you are asked to cover in absence of a full board.

May is a slight breather as we prepare for post season, All Stars. Player Agents have the biggest role now since we have to validate every single player making All Stars is an eligible player. A single ineligible player disqualifies the whole team. Then once all the players are validated the player agent gets a break depending on how far the teams go. The player agent could be busy all the way through the end of August if the teams make the World Series.

This oversight view of the Board Duties is being presented to answer some questions. The best way to learn the positions is to become a board member. There are some positions with little duties or a position can be created as a Member at Large so that you can attend the meetings after the General Membership portion.

By shadowing a senior Board Member you can get hands on training which will give you a seamless path to take over that position. Remember Little League is a community base volunteer organization that cannot exist in our city without volunteers. To continue the growth of Auburn Little League there must be a core of caring, responsible adults.
